Vande mataram bengali lyrics10/31/2023 ![]() A high-ranking officer in the government, Bankim Chandra, took the incident as a huge affront with a large audience in witness. The palanquin bearers took a short-cut route that passed through the Barrack Square Field where Colonel Duffin was playing cricket. On the fateful day, Bankim Babu, as he was respectfully called, was returning home from his office in a palanquin. Colonel Duffin was the commanding officer at the Berhampore Cantonment. He was the deputy collector of the Murshidabad district in 1873 and was posted at Berhampore, where his tiff with a British military officer called Colonel Duffin became the talk of the town. ![]() in 1858, Bankim Chandra followed in his father's footsteps and joined the British government. ![]() When the 1857 Revolt took place, Bankim Chandra was in college and deeply influenced by the developments. However, there have been some independent researchers - particularly, Kishanchand Bhakat, a teacher in Bengal's Murshidabad district, and Pradip Bhattacharya, a retired Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer and Indologist - who in recent times have proposed a different story giving the Vande Mataram song a historical inspiration.Īccording to these researchers, the idea of Vande Mataram came in the aftermath of physical abuse and insult meted out to Bankim Chandra on a cricket field in 1873.
